The Tunnel of Trees, M-119

A road to recovery

Spring rain and snowmelt caused major washouts along M-119 in April 2026. Additional flooding in June brought further damage. Today, the Tunnel of Trees remains open in sections, with detours connecting visitors and residents around the closures.

Know before you go

You cannot currently drive the entire route uninterrupted. Washouts near Division Road and Devil’s Elbow remain closed to through traffic. Follow posted detours, respect barricades, and check current conditions before traveling.

Follow the recovery

MDOT reopened M-119 between West Stutsmanville Road and Terpening Road in September after slope stabilization, retaining wall construction, and guardrail installation. Other major washouts remain closed. Follow along for repair updates and news from the communities along M-119.
